News Report: Russia, China Assess Negatively US-S Korea Deal on THAAD Systems Deployment

Russia and China expressed their disapproval of Washington and Seoul's decision to deploy the US Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile systems in South Korea at a Russian-Chinese meeting on security in northeastern Asia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The THAAD system is designed to intercept short, medium and intermediate ballistic missiles at the terminal incoming stage.

"The meeting participants expressed their concern over North Korea continuing to implement its nuclear program, as well as the desire of the United States and certain other countries to use the current tendencies to gain strategic advantage in northeastern Asia. In this context, the negative impact of Seoul and Washington's decision to deploy THAAD systems in South Korea was highlighted," the ministry said in a statement.
