News Story: Myanmar parliament approves bid for becoming party to nuclear conventions

YANGON, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- The parliament of Myanmar has approved the government's bid for becoming a party to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material and Nuclear Facilities and the Convention on Nuclear Safety, official media reported Friday.

A military MP called on the government to encourage the peaceful use of nuclear energy as well as to enact the Nuclear Safety Law in the country sooner.
