News Story: Myanmar former ruling party to propose peace policy to upcoming peace conference

NAY PYI TAW, Aug.9 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's former ruling party, the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), is preparing to submit its peace policy to the upcoming government-led 21st Century Panglong Conference slated for the end of this month in Nay Pyi Taw.

The party's Chairman U Thein Sein, who is former president of the country, made the remarks on Monday at a workshop on national reconciliation and internal peace, according to official sources.

The USDP's stance on peace implementation will be announced at the peace conference, U Thein Sein told the workshop. He expressed hope that the peace policy will assist the country's peace process.

U Thein Sein emphasized the need of taking balanced measures while building a federal union.
