News Story: Mountains in Zambales used to build Chinas island in West Philippines (South China) Sea

Foreign Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. on Wednesday confirmed that black sand is being taken from Philippine territory and used for reclamation activities in contested region in the West Philippine (South China) Sea.

Yasay told an organizational meeting at the Senate that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) was able to confirm the existence of such mining activities with the aid of the “intelligence community, the West Philippine Sea Task Force, and the country’s security cluster.”
