News Story: Jokowi raises South China Sea issue in talks with Najib

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has raised the South China Sea issue in talks with visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak here on Tuesday.

Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi, who accompanied Jokowi during the meeting, said the two government leaders discussed wide ranging bilateral and regional issues.

“The South China Sea issue was also discussed by President Jokowi and Prime Minister Najib in the annual consultative meeting,” Retno said.

She said in principle, Indonesia attached importance to respecting international law including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) of 1982.

She said Indonesia does not want South China Sea to become an arena for “power projection” by big powers.
