Indonesian law enforcement officers on Sunday detained an alleged follower of the Daesh terrorist group, during his attempt to carry out a suicide bombing in a Catholic church, a spokesman for the country's National Police said.
BALI (Indonesia) (Sputnik) – Earlier in the day, the suspect unsuccessfully tried to stab a priest and to attack the church in Indonesia's northwestern city of Medan.
"We have seized a back backpack from the perpetrator. The perpetrator is alive and injured and there are no casualties in this incident," Insp. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar said, as quoted by the Jakarta Globe.
He added that following the incident police found a drawing that looked like a flag of the Daesh.
Indonesia remains the homeland of the largest percentage of the fighters of the Daesh, a group outlawed in Russia and many other countries, originating from Southeast Asia.
