China is ready to impose an Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) over the West Philippine Sea and is just waiting for the right time to announce it, according to sources close to the People’s Liberation Army and a defense report.
The South China Morning Post said China is preparing for an ADIZ in the regional hotspot, based on the exclusive economic zones (EEZs) of its 7 artificial islands in the Spratlys, as well as of Woody Island in the Paracel Islands. But one source said the timing of any declaration would depend on security conditions in the region.
“If the US military keeps making provocative moves to challenge China’s sovereignty in the region, it will give Beijing a good opportunity to declare an ADIZ in the South China Sea,” the SCMP quoted citing the unnamed source.
