MUARA, Sunday 1 May 2016 – Military naval vessels have started to arrive in the Brunei waters in support of the multi-national maritime exercise, dubbed as ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Maritime Security and Counter Terrorism (ADMM Plus MS & CT) Exercise, that is scheduled to commence tomorrow, 02 until 12 May 2016.
Arriving yesterday at the Royal Brunei Naval jetty was the Fast Attack Patrol Vessel of the People’s Republic of Viet Nam.
Military vessels arriving today included the People’s Republic of China Destroyer LANZHOU (170), United States Navy Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS STETHEM (DDG 63), South Korean Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin-class destroyer ROKS Choi Young, Russian large anti-submarine pacific fleetship Admiral Vinogradov and the INS Airavat Shardul-class amphibious warfare vessel of the Indian Navy. These vessels were docked at the Muara commercial wharf.
Additionally, for those vessels docking at the Royal Brunei Naval Jetty were the Philippine Navy frigate BRP Gregorio del Pilar (PF-15), the Malaysian Navy KD TERENGGANU (174) Patrol vessel, Singapore Formidable Class multi-mission frigate, Thailand HTMS (His Thai Majesty's Ship) Taksin (FFG 422) Guided-Missile Frigate and the Australian Navy ship HMAS ANZAC Frigate Helicopter. The military naval ship from Indonesia will be arriving later in the evening.
Meanwhile, the Japanese JDS Ise DDH-182, the second of two Hyuga-class helicopter destroyer Japanese Navy is at anchor in Brunei Bay after its arrival early this morning.
Expected arrivals of participating military assets include maritime patrol aircrafts from the Royal New Zealand Air Force P-3 Orion and United States Navy P-8 Poseidan maritime surveillance aircraft.
