Brunei: Brunei, Japan strengthens Defence Cooperation

BOLKIAH GARRISON, Monday, 29 February 2016 – The Deputy Minister of Defence, First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit received a courtesy call from Mr. Toru Mimura, Vice Minister of Defense for International Affairs, Japan Ministry of Defense, this morning at Bolkiah Garrison, Ministry of Defence.

Both sides reaffirmed the excellent and close bilateral defence relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Japan. The meeting discussed ways to strengthen bilateral defence ties. Both sides also discussed regional issues and emphasised the continued importance of the ADMM-Plus forum to promote practical cooperation and to build mutual understanding.

Mr. Mimura is on an official visit to Brunei Darussalam from 28 – 29 February 2016. As part of his visit, Mr. Mimura met with Datin Paduka Hajah Suriyah binti Haji Umar, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam. Both Datin Paduka Hajah Suriyah and Mr. Mimura are the current ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADSOM) Leaders for Brunei Darussalam and Japan respectively.
