News Story: PLA won't buy Mistral class ships from France - commentary

The odds that China would may acquire the French Mistral-class amphibious assault ship are slim to none, according to a commentary published in the Beijing-based Sina Military Network.

The May 9-15 visit of two Mistral-class vessels from the French Navy to Shanghai had sparked debate over whether France would try to entice China to buy the ships, particularly as the delivery of two such vessels built for the Russian Navy has been postponed indefinitely over the Ukraine crisis.

According to the Sina Military commentary, however, there is virtually no chance that China would acquire the ships, which can deploy helicopters, landing barges and tanks.
