Brunei: BRUNEI-MALAYSIA NAVY ANNUAL HORNBILL EXERCISE BEGINS TODAY

KD SELANGOR & KD GANAS from the Royal Malaysian Navy

MUARA, Tuesday 18 November 2014 - The Royal Brunei Navy and Royal Malaysian Navy 24th series of Hornbill Exercise 2014 is a 3-day compact sea phase exercises that will be conducted in the Brunei and Malaysian Waters. The diverse sea and air range exercise events will also be supported by the Royal Brunei Air Force during the conduct of the Helo Transfer exercise. The exercise will run from 17 November 2014 until 23 November 2014.

The opening ceremony of the Hornbill Exercise 2014 was launched this morning by Laksamana Muda Dato’ Pahlawan Mohammad Rosland Bin Omar, Command Naval Region 2. He then gave an opening remark entailing objective of the exercise that is to enhance interoperability and naval professionalism. A presentation was also delivered about the participating ships for this exercise. There are KDB DARULEHSAN and KDB IJHTIHAD from the Royal Brunei Navy and KD SELANGOR and KD GANAS from the Royal Malaysian Navy.

Also present to witness the launching ceremony was the Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy, First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz Bin Haji Mohd Tamit, the Commander Task Group (CTG) for this exercise, Lt Kol (L) Willie bin Padan from the Royal Brunei Navy, the Deputy Commander Task Group (DCTG), Kdr Jamaluddin Bin Haji Sairi from the Royal Malaysian Navy. 

The Hornbill Exercises aims to enhance mutual understanding and agreed procedure as well as to establish a sense of camaraderie of both navies to another level. Informal sports and social events will also take place during the exercise.
