Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Russel will travel to Seoul, Tokyo, and Naypyidaw October 4 - 11 to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts and, in Naypyidaw, lead the U.S. delegation to the East Asia Summit (EAS) Senior Officials Meeting.
On October 6 in Seoul, Assistant Secretary Russel will consult with Republic of Korea (ROK) Government counterparts on the U.S.-ROK alliance and bilateral, regional, and global issues.
He will travel to Tokyo October 7 - 9 to participate in discussions with Japanese Government counterparts on bilateral, regional, and global issues, including the U.S.-Japan alliance.
In Naypyidaw, October 9 -10, Assistant Secretary Russel will lead the U.S. delegation to the EAS Senior Officials Meetings. He will meet with senior Burmese Government officials to discuss the country’s democratic reform process and consult with EAS counterparts in preparation for the EAS Summit in November.
Assistant Secretary Russel will return to Washington, DC on October 11.
