Taiwan's annual Han Kuang series of exercises later this month will include the use of civilian planes for the first time, a military official said Tuesday.
The five-day exercises, set to begin Sept. 15 all around Taiwan, include drills centering on military personnel, equipment and aircraft to test the armed forces' joint combat capabilities in the event of attacks by China, said Rear Admiral Mei Chia-shu, at a news conference.
This year will also include drills on cyber warfare to test the military's ability to restore downed facilities, while another drill will involve civilian planes in a wartime scenario, he said.
