Japan, who currently sells arms to India, the Philippines and Vietnam, may be adding Taiwan to the list of clients, according to experts cited in China's party-run Global Times. The statement has been reposted repeatedly online and drawn heated discussion among netizens, reports our sister newspaper Want Daily.

The Kyodo News published an article on Aug. 13 citing sources from the government as saying that Japan is touting its weapons to countries with a confrontational relationship with China. Military experts in China said Japan may eye Taiwan as a potential customer and challenge China's bottom line by selling weapons to the island.

Many Chinese netizens see Japan's move as a threat and the thought that Japan and Taiwan may join forces against China "unbearable."
