SEOUL — South Korea will deploy four aerial refueling tankers between 2017 and 2019 as part of efforts to extend the operational range of its fighter jets, according to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).
The agency approved a plan Aug. 12 to buy four foreign refueling tankers for the air force’s fleet of F-15Ks and KF-16s.
“Bids are invited for the acquisition of refueling tankers next February, and the successful bidder is to be announced by October after evaluations of price and performance,” said DAPA spokesman Baek Yoon-hyung.
