Brunei: HADR OPERATIONS CONTINUE


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Wednesday 19 June 2013 - The Tropical Revolving Storm Typhoon SIMPUR continues to strike affecting the villagers. More victims were reported stranded this morning. Two casualties at Kampong Mentiri, two casualties at Kampong Biang and ten casualties at Kampong Selangan were rescued. All the casualties were evacuated by helicopter for further medical treatment at Muara Naval Base and Incident Coordination Center in Bangar. Rescue teams from multi-national forces continue to conduct the HADR operations in the affected areas.  

In the afternoon, the On Site Coordination Centre (OSOCC) and the Multi-National Coordination Centre (MNCC) held a Civil-Military Coordination Meeting (CIMIC) to further coordinate relief operations with government and non-government organization for rehabilitation phase. The incident is part of the scenario of the HADR and MM Exercise today. The objective of the exercise scenario is to practice the medical response to the incident and to practice the HADR procedure between the various coordination centres. As part of the community outreach, the Medical Sites of the exercise has provided medical treatment to 1,134 people.

On the same day, the ASEAN Plus Chiefs of Defence Forces and Representatives visited the respective country’s exercise sites. The visit began with an operation brief at MNCC, followed by visit at Muara, Temburong and Mentiri sites.

During the visit at the Selangan Primary School, a modular building was handed over jointly by the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and Singapore Chief of Defence Forces to Principal of the School. The modular structure served as a shelter and relief base for casualties and displaced personnel as part of the exercise play. The construction started on 4 June and ended on 18 June involving 10 Royal Brunei Armed Forces and 13 Singapore Armed Forces combat engineers. The school plans to turn the building into a Mathematics room after the exercise.
