BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Thursday 31 January 2013 -  The 10th ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces Informal Meeting (ACDFIM) Preliminary Staff Meeting (PSM) was held at the Orchid Garden Hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.

This working group-level meeting, co-organized by the Joint Force Headquarters and Directorate of Intelligence, was attended by the representatives of both the ASEAN Military Intelligence Informal Meeting (AMIIM) as well as ASEAN Military Operations Informal Meeting (AMOIM) who are both under the purview of the ACDFIM.

Twenty-three participants were present from all ASEAN countries comprising of Brunei Darussalam, the Kingdom of Cambodia, Republic of Indonesia, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the Republic of the Philippines, the Republic of Singapore, the Kingdom of Thailand and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. Since 2003, AMIIM has been held back-to-back with the ACDFIM whereas AMOIM was first held in Jakarta in 2011.

The primary aim of the 10th ACDFIM PSM is to set in motion the initial discussions pertaining to the 10th ACDFIM including the Meeting Agenda, the 6th ASEAN Militaries Two-Year Activity Work Plan (2013-2015) and the Joint Resolution.

Overall, the PSM resulted in various good discussions that are imperative towards ensuring the success of the 10th ACDFIM that will be held on 19-21 March 2013 in Brunei Darussalam.  The ACDFIM is a significant contributor towards the strengthening of the ASEAN Defence Sector as it serves as a platform for ASEAN Chief of Defence Forces to discuss cooperative mechanisms for current significant matters pertaining to defence and security.
