The next Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is determined to find a solution to Japan’s territorial dispute with Russia and sign a formal postwar peace treaty with his country’s northern neighbor. He spoke about this in Tokyo Sunday after his Liberal Democrats triumphantly returned to power in general elections. They now hold 265 out of the 480 Lower House seats, and their defeated rivals, the Democrats, only 41.
The Democrats ruled Japan for 3 years, with a plurality of 230 seats.
The outgoing Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda has already resigned as their leader.
