News Story: Japan will want Diaoyutai (Diaoyu/Senkaku) resolution before Xi takes over


Japan is seeking to solve the ongoing territorial dispute with China over islands in East China Sea before the Communist Party's new leadership fully takes over the reins in March next year, given that a new national leader is likely to push Japan hard to establish its authority at home, reports our sister newspaper the China Times.

Xi Jinping is set to take over from Hu Jintao as general secretary of the Communist Party at the CCP's 18th National Congress next month and as China's president from next year.

Sources familiar with diplomatic circles say there have been misunderstandings between the two countries over Japan's nationalization last month of three of the disputed Diaoyutai (Diaoyu or Senkaku) islands, which are also claimed by Taiwan.
