Sri Lanka: Navy arrested 174 persons bound for Australia

98 Australia bound Persons arrested

Sri Lanka Navy arrested 98 persons bound for Australia in 02 multi-day trawlers on 25th August 2012. A trawler named “ Ann Mishal ” with 77 persons including 53 Tamils (52 men and 1 woman) and 24 Sinhalies on board and the other multi-day trawler with 21 persons including 19 Tamils and 02 Muslims on board were intercepted West of Chilaw and East of Batticaloa respectively.

The arrested persons are residents of Jaffna, Mullaithivu, Colombo, Negambo Chilaw, Vauniya, Puththam, Galgamuwa, Trincomalee, Muttur, Ampara, Batticaloa and Kinniya . They were brought to Modar Fishing Harbour and Trincomalee Harbour to be handed over to the CID for further investigations.

76 Australia bound Persons arrested

Sri Lanka Navy arrested 76 persons bound for Australia in 02 multi-day trawlers on 25th and 26th August 2012. A trawler name “Rashith Putha” with 24 persons including 12 Tamils ( 10 men and 02 women) and 12 Muslims with board and the other multi-day trawler name “ Sadev Putha I ” with 52 tamil persons including 45 men , 05 woman and 02 children on board were intercepted off Trincomalee and Manalkadu respectively.

The arrested persons are residents of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaithivu, Trincomalee, Muttur, Ampara, Batticaloa, Kinniya, Maradankeny, Chavakachcheriya and Peduruthuduwa. They were brought to Trincomalee and KKS Harbour to be handed over to the CID for further investigations.
