Sri Lanka Navy intercepted 68 persons illegally bound for Australia in a multi-day trawler on 08th August 2012. The trawler named “Risora Duwa” bearing the registration number IMUL-A-0189 Chilaw was intercepted by a Fast Naval Patrol Craft attached to the Southern Naval Command 10 nautical miles off Kosgoda.
The trawler, operated by a seven-member crew, is the first Australia-bound to be intercepted in the south-western seas. It had left from Beruwala with the passengers that included 56 men, 02 women and 03 children. All are Sri Lankan Tamils who are resident in Killinochchi. They were escorted to Galle Harbour to be handed over to the CID for further investigations.
