The Army has given an impetus to reforming its education and training and to establishing advanced barrack cultures to improve its spearhead combat capabilities and to establishing advanced barrack cultures.

On August 14, Army Chief of Staff Gen. Kim Sang-ki visited the 1st Corps and had an on-site discussion forum with commanders and staff subordinate to the Corps about ways to build up strong combat-oriented Army.

The theme of the Army’s education and training reform included both the development of the education and training based on the qualification it had carried forward and the renovation and conduction of the education and training based on an intensive training concept.

Another discussion theme the establishment of advanced barrack cultures included ways to build a vigorous barrack culture, make the culture of work better, streamline administrative procedures and improve the quality of administration.

According to the first-line commanders’ report, the intensive training conducted in the first half of this year resulted in brought great improvements to the soldiers’ fighting strength especially in field firing.

The report also showed that the commissioned officers had demonstrated an outstanding ability along with being full of self-confidence in performing their duties because they had taken a realistic training program before they were formally commissioned.

In addition, it was reported that the soldiers wanted to change the existing military culture progressively so that they can make full use of their military service as a turning point in their career, not as a meaningless long break, through goal-driven self-improvement.

Army Chief Kim said the reform of the education and training “can be effectively achieved when you understand definitely the concept of the intensive training.” “You should improve your education and training continuously and step by step, without sticking to formalities at all, to maximize your combat capability.”
