Assault landings and live fire training were held at the Kaneohe Marine Base Wednesday. It was the highlight of the RIMPAC exercises for hundreds of troops who have been training here in Hawaii for several weeks.
Troops moved in by sea as amphibious tanks landed on the beach at the Marine Corps Base in Kaneohe.
And even more troops dropped down from above using helicopters. About 400 personnel from five countries took part in the exercise in what's being hailed as the culmination of the whole RIMPAC exercises that began over a month ago.
"It's been a great time getting to know the tactics and techniques that all the countries use,” said Captain Dan Petronzio, US Marine. “And we've been learning a lot through all the separate nations coming together."
A total of 14 countries actually participated in the RIMPAC exercises, which is the largest multi-national maritime event of its kind. Working with other countries has been a learning process for everyone involved.
