Brunei: DEFENCE CAPABILITY DEVELOPMENT AND PROCUREMENT PLANNING WORKSHOP

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Wednesday 9th May 2012 – The Directorate of Force Capability Development (DFCD) is organising a 3-day workshop, Delivering Defence Capability: Defence Capability Development and Procurement Planning. This is part of the various bilateral defence cooperation initiatives that has been agreed during the Australia Brunei Darussalam Joint Defence Working Committee (JDWC) meeting late last year.

The workshop will be conducted by GPCPT Peter Layton and Mr. Chris Tognon from the Capability Development Group, and Mr. Willem Bouwer from the Defence Materiel Organisation, the Department of Defence Australia. The team has extensive experiences in capability development, procurement and managing major equipment projects for the Australian Defence Force.

A total of 27 Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) and Ministry of Defence (MinDef) Officers are attending the workshop. They consist of Staff Officers, Civilian Officers and Researchers from the various military and civilian directorates. Also attending are those from the Royal Brunei LandForce, Navy and Airforce.

The main objectives of the workshop are; to provide knowledge for RBAF and MinDef personnel in the process of Capability Development Management, to  understand and compare the process of managing and procuring capability that is practiced by Australia with that of Brunei, and to provide exposure to the personnel of a more systematic and efficient approach in undertaking major projects of the RBAF.
