China has warned India not to overestimate its military strength following the successful test-firing of a new Indian intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
The 3,100-mile range of the Agni V missile, which was fired from India's Wheeler Island testing facility shortly after 8am on 19 April, is enough to deliver a nuclear payload to sites throughout mainland China and parts of Europe, and the missile is India's first ICBM.
The country now joins permanent UN Security Council members the UK, USA, France, China and Russia in possessing such a capability, and is said to be considering an Agni VI missile with an even greater range, potentially giving the country's nuclear arsenal global reach.
