Brunei: Australian Defence Force Strengthen Defence Relation With Brunei Counterparts

BOLKIAH GARRISON, Friday 04 November 2011 – Brunei Darussalam is currently hosting a 3-days visit for the Chief of Defence Forces, Australin Defence Force, General David Hurley AC, DSC from the 3rd November until 5th November 2011.

This morning General David Hurley paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat at the Ministry of Defence in Bolkiah Garrison. A separate courtesy call was also made upon the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.

Brunei Darussalam and Australia established relationship through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation between the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of Australia signed on 10 May 1999. The MoU serves as a framework to promote defence cooperation and enhancing strong bilateral defence links between Brunei Darussalam and Australia. Since then, both countries have fostered strong bilateral defence relations through courses and training, and through regular exercises involving the three main services of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).
