News Story: Japan to keep close eye on disputed isles

Japan is boosting the security of the outlying islands at its south-western corner in the wake of increased Chinese naval activities in the area, especially around the disputed Senkaku islands.

Japan's Coast Guard is beefing up its surveillance capabilities with the deployment of an additional patrol craft at Ishigaki Island, part of Okinawa prefecture.

Ishigaki is the Coast Guard's closest base to the Senkaku islands, which China calls Diaoyudao and claims as its own.
