Brunei: Pakistani Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Extends Defence Ties with MINDEF Senior Officials

BOLKIAH GARRISON, Tuesday 25 October 2011 – Brunei Darussalam is currently hosting a 4-day visit for the Pakistani Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) His Excellency General Khalid Shameem Wynne from the 23 October until 26 October 2011. Accompanying him is his spouse Mrs Begum Attiya Nazli Wynne and other senior Pakistani delegation.

One of the Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee scheduled programme was a visit to the Ministry of Defence in Bolkiah Garrison held on Monday afternoon, 24 October, where he paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat. A separate courtesy call was also made upon the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.

Brunei Darussalam established bilateral relations with Pakistan since 1984. A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between the two countries in May 2004, which include training and exercises; technology transfer; cooperation in the procurement of defence equipment and material; intellectual property; and exchange, release and protection of information. The MoU also covers the exchange of visits by defence and military officials, as well as establishing a Joint Defence Working Committee framework.
