Centennial mobilization (Wan-an No. 34) & compounded disaster prevention drill took place today hosted by Jinmen County government. The purpose of the drill was to plan and reinforce the ability of the authority concerned as well as the civilians to cope with the possible situations when various kinds of disasters hit. Through the mobilization and incorporation of the administration, the military, the civilian defense and the medical and relief organizations, the military and the civilians work together as a group to deal with the potential disasters and build a network for national security.
In the drill, different items such as typhoons, air crashes, tsunami and nuclear disaster were practiced respectively. The county government’s capabilities to mobilize and integrate the concerned organizations, their resolution to keep the security of the territory were shown.
Li Wuo-Shi, Magistrate of Jinmen County, remarks that surrounded by oceans and isolated from Taiwan, Jinmen isn’t able to get the immediate backup and relief from the central government or any other adjacent cities. With its small measure of area, a disaster reaches easily a across-island scale. It is important for people of Jinmen to have the concept to help themselves and minimize the damage before the relief reaches the island.
General Wu Da-Peng, deputy chief of the drill, pointed out the goals of this drill was to form a network for the authorities concerned to exchange information, to improve the relief measures if necessary, and to reinforce the idea that the local government takes responsibility while the central government provides backup, so that the efficiency of relief work will be boosted under the cooperation of the military and the civilians.
The drill will continue tomorrow morning to the part of military practice. The county government will integrate the military, the voluntary firework, the civilian defense and the relief organization to do the comprehensive practical drills under 21 items such as medical relief, the mobilization, and the take-in of the homeless, etc.
