RoK: Protect the maritime border at all cost

South Korea's Navy First Fleet conducted joint maritime drill with Army, Air Force and Coast Guard aimed at preventing North Korea from entering the South by intruding the Northern Limit Line (NLL), de facto inter-Korean maritime border.

In the drill, which took place on waters near Goseong, Gangwon, four warships, including a 1,200-ton Patrol Combat Corvette Chungju, artillery unit under Army 8th Corps, fighter jets and a Coast Guard ship carried out the live-firing exercises.

The drill, which is aimed at enhancing joint capability of military units, began with our Coast Guard ship moving right after potential enemy's patrol boat and a fighter jet intruded NLL.

Then our high-speed vessels and fighters took off swiftly to block potential enemy's way.

Potential enemy gave surprise attack at our ships when the way was blocked. But our ships fired an aimed shot toward the enemy and enemy's vessel sank.

"We are fully prepared to counteract on the double against any possible provocations by the enemy," said Wu Sang-hyeon, commander of the corvette Chungju. "We will keep on carrying out intensive exercise and build complete preparedness posture."

The First Fleet has been conducting joint drill once in every month with Army, Air Force and Coast Guard.
