There’s a very interesting Paper on the ASPI (Australian Strategic Policy Institute) website written by Andrew Davies and Mark Thomson, it discusses Australia’s future Submarine development program, they point out the length of time it took to develop the existing Collins class boats, and that if Australia wants to have NEW subs online before the old boats are retired, the government needs to start the development program immediately, failing to do so could lead to years without a viable submarine capability.
