(13th March, by Chung-hsuan Lee, Military News Agency, Taipei)The quake in Japan caused multiple disasters, the MND will cooperate with Executive Yuan to held a “centennial national disaster relief drill”, according to Deputy Minister Chao this morning. The drill will put Taiwan in the hypothetical assumption of facing tsunami, quake, nuclear crisis and take Japan’s 311 quake experience into consideration to consolidate national troops’ disaster relief capacity.

Deputy Minister Chao made the above explanation after the press conference of MND of the evening in reply to the inquiries from media such as Japan’s quake disaster relief and MND’s relevant emergency capacity.

According to Deputy Minister Chao, the MND will self-examine national troops’ mechanism of disaster relief and refer to Japanese relief measures to consolidate each unit’s drill and elevate their capacity of disaster relief.

According to Deputy Minister Chao, the 9-magnitude quake in Japan led to multiple disasters such as nuclear crisis, fire and tsunami. As one of Japan’s neighbouring countries, Taiwan may face similar trial in the future. Therefore, the MND will cooperate with other divisions of Executive Yuan to explore the disaster relief measures and enlist multiple disasters as one of the situations in Han-kuan drill and ordinary training.
