Fu Ying-chuan, a retired Taiwanese general, has urged the Ma Ying-jeou administration to respond positively to the suggestion of a military security confidence-building mechanism proposed by Chinese President Hu Jintao during the Communist Party's 18th National Congress.
Fu, who is also director general of Society for Strategic Studies, ROC, said such a mechanism would be highly significant for the development of cross-strait relations. It would help reduce antagonism and the risk of military conflict between the two sides and is also in line with the peaceful development of current cross-strait policy, which could contribute to Taiwan's social stability and economic development, increasing the confidence and reducing the risks of Taiwanese businesses in China, Fu said, according to Want Daily, our Chinese-language sister newspaper.
