Speculation among military enthusiasts that China's first domestically constructed aircraft carrier is set to begin assembly in a ship cradle in August has peaked after photographs of a ship construction project with an estimated displacement of several hundred thousand tonnes at the Dalian Shipyard surfaced online, according to the military affairs web portal of the Shanghai-based New Outlook.
The photographs, dating from June, show the beginnings of the hull of what has been called the Type 001A carrier taking form in the Dalian shipyard, according to the website.
