News Story: China, HK, and Japan media send off false 'warning flare' - Duowei

Media in China, Japan and Hong Kong erroneously reported that Japan self-defense forces will fire warning shots at Chinese aircraft who ignore radio warnings and fly through Japan's air defense identification zone, which includes the disputed Diaoyutai (Senkaku or Diaoyu) islands, says Duowei News, a news outlet by overseas Chinese.

Japan's defense minister Itsunori Onodera did not mention words such as "warning shots" or "flare" during a press conference on Monday, even though Hong Kong media asked him twice whether Japanese forces will fire warning shots. The minister said that aircraft that invade Japan's air space are not exclusively coming from China, and Japan "has response measures ready that are consistent with global standards," according to Asahi Shimbun, although he did not elaborate on what the measures were.

State-run Chinese media, Hong Kong media and Japanese newspapers such as Asahi Shimbun have distorted or even fabricated the Japanese minister's words, said Duowei News.
