News Story: Chinese and Japanese officials hold second Diaoyutai (Diaoyu/Senkaku) meeting


As Chinese ocean surveillance and fishery administration ships continue to patrol the waters of the East China Sea to challenge the Japanese administration of the disputed Diaoyutai (Diaoyu or Senkaku) islands, officials from the two sides have met three times to discuss the critical issue, reports our sister newspaper China Times.

Japan's government nationalized three of the islands on Sept. 11, triggering a wave of anti-Japanese demonstrations in China and increased maritime activity in the area. On Oct. 24, a Chinese research ship escorted by four ocean surveillance ships approached the islands again, the fifth consecutive day that the four ocean surveillance vessels had entered the disputed waters.
