South Korean and Cambodian Defense Ministries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance mutual cooperation in military logistics on July 7 (Reported on 17-8-2012).
Lee Seon-chul, Deputy Defense Minister for Force and Resources Management, and his Cambodian counterpart Army Lt. Gen. Chau Phirun, Chief Director of the Cambodian Defense Ministry Material and Technology Office, have signed an MOU aimed at furthering logistics cooperation between the two military forces.
The signed MOU includes providing military supplies and services to each other in the event of humanitarian aid or disaster relief aid under the terms and conditions of making reimbursement payments later on to each other.
Prior to the signing, the Korean Defense Ministry had already pledged to hand over Korean military surplus in June this year to Cambodia. Thus, the defense industrial and defense exchanges and cooperation between the two countries are expected to be further strengthened. The surplus consists of a total of 20 kinds and 8,743 items comprising individual, mobility, engineering and computer equipment.
“The necessity for inter-state support and cooperation in military logistics has recently increased amid frequent natural disasters,” a Defense Ministry official said. “We expect this MOU with Cambodia will help enhance military logistics cooperation between the two militaries and also make a major contribution to increasing worldwide disaster relief and humanitarian assistance.”
Korea has signed a MOU on mutual cooperation in military logistics with 10 nations such as the United States, Thailand, New Zealand, Turkey, the Philippines, Israel, Australia, Canada, Indonesia and Singapore.
