News Story: Afghan forces repel Taliban offensives, killing six militants in north

PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- At least six militants loyal to Taliban were killed and 12 others wounded following an Afghan forces' counter-attack raid in the country' northern province of Baghlan, police said Monday.

"The incident took place Sunday evening, when Taliban attacked Bagh-e-Shamal and Surkh Kotal areas of provincial capital Pul-e-Khumri, but they fled of government forces resolute reaction, leaving six fighters dead and 12 others wounded," provincial police Chief Gen. Ekramuddin Sari told Xinhua.

Three civilians also sustained injuries in the militants' mortar shell, he added.
