BEIJING, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Settlement of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue calls for coordination and cooperation as well as collective wisdom and concerted efforts, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said Tuesday.
Geng made the remarks at a daily press briefing in response to reports saying that the United States and Japan are calling on China to take more responsibility and exert more influence on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to resolve the peninsula issue.
Geng said that the core of this issue is the conflicts between the DPRK and the United States and the nature of the issue is security.
Those who exaggerate and highlight China's responsibility either lack of a full and clear understanding of the issue or have ulterior motives, said Geng.
China is neither the focus of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue nor escalating tension, Geng said, adding China does not hold the keys to solving the issue.
