News tory: Japan, U.S., S. Korea agree to resolute stand on N. Korea

NEW YORK (Kyodo) -- Foreign ministers of Japan, the United States and South Korea agreed on Friday that they will make a "resolute" response to North Korea in the event of further nuclear testing or other provocative acts.

Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung Se also confirmed the need to ask China, North Korea's main diplomatic and economic benefactor, to do more to rein in Pyongyang's nuclear and missile activities.

The three met on the sidelines of a U.N. Security Council ministerial-level gathering on North Korea's nuclear program in the wake of their talks in Bonn, Germany in February.

During the meeting, Kishida welcomed the new U.S. administration's policy on Pyongyang that all options, including military action, are "on the table," a Japanese official said.
