News Report: Thai Police, Army Detain 15 People Suspected of Bombings, Arson

Thai police and military detained 15 people suspected of arson and bombings in the country's resorts, Col. Burin Thongpraphai, the legal chief-of-staff of the National Council for Peace and Order, said on Thursday.

BANGKOK (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Thongpraphai pressed charges against two other suspects who had been detained earlier but subsequently released.

"In connection to arson and bombings, 15 people were apprehended and placed in pre-trial detention centers on the premises of the 41st and 11th guards divisions," Thongpraphai was quoted as saying by the Thai Rath newspaper.

Later in the day, police are expected to hand over the full list of suspects to a Bangkok military court to obtain arrest warrants, according to the newspaper.

Earlier in August, a series of blasts rocked southern provinces of Thailand, claiming the lives of four people and leaving 35 people, including 10 tourists, injured. The cost of the damage caused is estimated at some $3.5 million.
