News Story: Chinese diplomat issues stern warning to Philippines before UN Court ruling

A week before an arbitration tribunal issue its ruling on a case filed by the Philippines to challenge China’s claims in the South China Sea, a veteran Chinese foreign-policy maker has sent a stern warning to Philippines about making “further provocation.”

Dai Bingguo, a retired official who spent nearly two decades at the center of China’s foreign-policy apparatus, warned that “no one and no country should implement the award in any form, much less to force China into implementation.”

“And the Philippines must be dissuaded from making any further provocation. Otherwise, China would not sit idle,” Dai told a gathering of Chinese and U.S. think tank officials in Washington on Tuesday.

Dai also warns U.S. that tensions in South China Sea is now high and ‘accidents could happen’ if ruling is implemented.
