France has converged into the bitter West Philippine Sea case debate, requesting for more European naval patrols in a disputed maritime area that is at the center of a increasing conflict between China and the United States and its Asian allies.
Le Drian, a French Defense Minister Jean-Yves, said on Sunday at a three-day security conference in Singapore that he’s been calling on European navies to have a “regular and visible” presence in the region to maintain the law of the sea and freedom of navigation.
More details on his proposal for regular patrols by European navies would soon be provided, Le Drian said.
“If we want to contain the risk of conflict, we must defend this right and defend it ourselves,” Le Drian stated.
