News Story: Missiles in Beijing parade could strike any target in Japan - report

By showing off its advanced missile systems during the military parade on Sept. 3 to mark the 70th anniversary of victory over Japan in World War II, China made it known that it is able to attack all critical targets within Japan, according to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.

The Japanese newspaper said that most of the 300,000 personnel that President Xi Jinping announced would be cut from China's armed forces are from the PLA's ground forces. This means that more resources will be devoted to the modernization of the PLA's navy and air force for a potential conflict in the Asia-Pacific region. The DF-21D anti-ship ballistic missile that was shown to the public for the first time attracted attention from the US military, the report said.
