MYANMAR,Thursday 20 August 2015 - The 9th ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting (9th ANCM) held today at the Horizon Lake View Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw. With the theme: “ASEAN Naval Teamwork Towards ASEAN Integration 2015”.
The meeting was hosted by the Myanmar Navy was officially launched by Myanmar Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy & Air), Lieutenant General Kyaw Swe by addressing his keynote address.
Prior to the launching of the meeting the ASEAN Navy Chiefs made a group courtesy call to Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, called for greater cooperation among ASEAN armed forces in the future.
The 9th ANCM Navy Chiefs’ of the ASEAN countries are — Commander-In-Chief of Myanmar Navy, Vice Admiral Tin Aung San; Commander of Royal Brunei Navy, First Admiral Pg Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pg Haji Muhammad; Commander-In-Chief of Royal Cambodian Navy, Admiral Tea Vinh; Vice Chief of Indonesian Navy, Vice Admiral Widodo; Chief of Navy Royal Malaysian Navy, Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar; Chief of Navy Philippine Navy, Vice Admiral Caesar C Taccad; Chief of Navy Republic of Singapore Navy, Rear Admiral Lai Chung Han; Commander-In-Chief Royal Thai Navy, Admiral Kraisorn Chansuvanich; Commander-In-Chief of Vietnam People’s Navy, Rear Admiral Pham Hoai Nam; and attending on behalf of the Lao People’s Armed Forces Defence Advisor of Laos in Myanmar, Colonel Lertlivanh.
During the meeting, the Chiefs of Navies exchanged views on the efforts in “Fostering ASEAN Naval Teamwork in Regional Maritime Security”. The exchange of views highlighted the sharing of ideas on how the long established friendship could be further strengthened with the conduct of activities that will enhance practical cooperation and mutual trust at multiple levels. The agenda is also covering new initiatives as well as consensus on the conduct of future meetings.
This year’s ANCM has brought a new milestone since its establishment; the ASEAN Navy Chiefs launched the Permanent Logo of ANCM, which will be used as a badge of ASEAN Naval Cooperation.
RBN Commander took the opportunity to held bilateral meetings with the ASEAN Chief of Navies as an effort to promote bilateral ties with ASEAN Countries through discussions areas of naval cooperations.
