The Chinese ambassador on Monday said it wanted the Philippines to resume talks to resolve maritime disputes in the South China Sea.
"We need to resume our bilateral negotiations without any condition. I think this is the best way that we can discuss how to peacefully settle these disputes," said Ambassador Zhao Jianhua.
"Our door for bilateral consultation and negotiation is still open and will be open forever," Zhao told reporters at his official residence after China donated books to the National Library of the Philippines.
The Philippines filed an arbitration case against China over the South China Sea disputes in early 2013. China has been accused of illegal activities in the South China Sea, including its land reclaimations which many say are being created with military purposes in mind. This has set off a wave of tension throughout the region including military build-ups by its neighbors.
