News Story: THAAD deployment could lead to Chinese attack on S Korea - US scholars

With the capability to detect and intercept Chinese ballistic missiles, the deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system also known as THAAD to South Korea by the US Army may result in an actual military conflict between Washington and Beijing, according to China's nationalist tabloid, the Global Times on June 3.

The Pentagon and Seoul claim that THAAD's deployment to South Korea would be to defend the nation from a North Korean missile attack American scholars Theodore Postol from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and George Lewis Cornell from Cornell University, However, said during an interview with Hankyoreh, a Korean-language leftist newspaper based in Seoul that THAAD is a part of a US ballistic missile defense system to be used against China in the Far East.
