The People's Liberation Army will commence live-fire drills near the Myanmar border from June 2, according to a report from Chinese national broadcaster CCTV.
The announcement was made Monday by the PLA's Chengdu Military Region, which said that the joint air-ground live ammunition exercises will take place on the Chinese side of the border.
It is not clear how long the exercises will run for, though the PLA informed that the region will become a no-fly zone during this period and vehicles and personnel must comply with strict entry requirements.
The drills come amid simmering tensions between Myanmar's government forces and ethnic rebels, with their ongoing fighting spilling across the border into China multiple times since the start of the year.
