News Story: PLA chooses A300 hybrid rocket system as contractors compete

The People's Liberation Army decided to buy the A300 hybrid rocket system designed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation at the International Defence Exhibition and Conference held in Abu Dhabi between Feb. 22-26, according to Richard Fisher, a US expert in Chinese military affairs, in a piece for the UK-baed Jane's Defence Weekly on Mar. 28.

Source from the Chinese military said the A300 is a two-stage artillery rocket designed based on the current A200 hybrid rocket system. China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation has extended the attack range of the A300 to 290 kilometers from the A200's 200 kilometers. It has a larger engine which can boost an unpowered second stage with vanes for lift and control fins directed by an inertial measuring unit-navigation satellite guidance system, Fisher said.
