News Story: India upgrades defenses along northeastern border with China

Indian territorial dispute with China over Arunachal Pradesh

India is upgrading its defenses along the Chinese border to prevent a potential invasion of the People's Liberation Army, according to the website of Economic Times, an English-language newspaper based in New Delhi on Feb. 7.

"We have to make developments there," said Shri RK Mathur, the country's defense secretary. "Our infrastructure has to improve, our war preparedness has to improve. We are working on that." Mathur said that the upgrading of the infrastructure along India's northeastern border has nothing to do with the nation's territorial dispute with China over Arunachal Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will discuss this issue with President Xi Jinping of China during his visit to Beijing in May, Mathur said.
